GW in a Cracked.com Article
Hey guys I was just reading an article on cracked.com and saw that GW had a screenshot posted in it. Thought it was interesting. Anyways, heres the link.
http://www.cracked.com/article_17442...r-fix-why.html
BTW Cracked is often for mature audiences only(no nudity but a little racy articles). Also not sure if this is in the right area so mods please move to where it should be.
Thanks,
Aurora

Nothing wrong with cutscenes when they can be skipped and they can in Guild Wars. I liked the 7 game commandments article more.

Kind of an interesting article, not much GW related except to say the cutscenes are bad. And really, they're not overwhelming or anything with the ability to skip, and I enjoy watching them all at least once through to get a feel for the storyline. But the /emote commands making weapons disappear, erratic movement and predictable emote driven videos are annoying. It's worse since some of the preview stuff looks awesome, so you know they can make high quality video work.

If you mean the CGI movies, they don't make them themselves.

I think GW could do without cut-scenes. Just about every GW cut-scene makes me at least whince a little. I think more games could stand to leave the story vague.

You guys have to acknowledge the cutscenes have improved over the years. One could even call some of the BMP ones cinematic.
But sufficient to say that nobody will mistake ANY game for a good action flick or a good drama anytime soon. The gaming worlds are just not set up to complement that level of emotion. Especially when character "dies" the emotional attachment is a bottom level since usually people just get rezzed when they die. And I also did not have to cry when Aeris died, I was rather annoyed to have to load the game, strip her of the only healing materia at that time, replay the whole sequence and finally continue playing.

Max Payne 2's comic book "cinematics" were excellent.

Noticed that they liked things like Half-Life's "scripted sequences" - which are, of course, nothing more than cutscenes that you can move around in and shoot your weapon (and possibly fail the game if you shoot an NPC, naturally), but during which you can't actually bypass to continue on with the game. "Yes, I know you don't care about my technobabble since you've been through this a dozen times before, Gordon, but I'm still not going to let you through that door until I'm finished."

The cutscenes are fine, but in some places they just use emotes too much like the sitting/kneeling
Overall cutscenes I could never stand were the 1st in Factions and Prophecies:
"You're back! What news of the Charr?!"
(Charr fighting Ascalon soldiers in the background with lots of screaming and noise)
The voice acting for the Guardsman in Minister Cho's estate is uber aswell.
"AH! Master Togo! I did not know you were here!

Vague stories are not good. But things Like Xenogears in which the game is told instead played suck.
The best games let's you play the whole storyline, without leaving anything out.

I had that Indiana Jones game, was a difficult piece of shit. When you won it just ends with that screent he article shows, then you know what happens? You start right back at the begining a do it all over.
You would walk of the screen only to find that the edge of the screen was also the edge of a cliff and you had about 1/2 a second to a) open your parachute and b) manuver your square Indy under a square tree branch and into a cave. If you hit the tree you fell to your death, I died alot.
You spent half the game not moving because the swarm of TseTse Flies that was EVERYWHERE would sting you and you would sleep for a mainute, then move around for a minute, then get stung and sleep for a minute, rinse repeat.
Anyway, David Wong writes some good stuff, if you've never read the internet novel "John Dies in the End" you should, though I here it is going into print it can still be found on the net, it's not as funny as "the Pricess Bride" which is one of the funniest things I've ever read (the abridged version at least) but it's some funny stuff. I highly suggest reading it.

Oh I see this yesterday or something. I thought about posting it, but you beat me to it.
I like some cut scenes..that you can skip. Not the ones that you HAVE to watch without the ability of skipping <.<
